Santa Barbara, Calif. The Pacific Tigers women's tennis team dropped a tough 4-3 decision to the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos at the Rob Gym Tennis Courts in Santa Barbara Calif. Saturday March 8, 2008. With the loss, Pacific drops to 3-8 overall and 0-3 in the Big West.

Doubles play started the day with sophomore Svenia Arens (Bensberg, Germany) and sophomore Sasha Fisher (Southampton, Bermuda) falling to Jill Damion and Asagi Onaga 8-3, at the No. 2 doubles slot. The Gauchos secured the doubles point when Pacifc's junior Jolanta Twarowska (Hamburg, Germany) and freshman Olga Gumenyuk (Kiev, Ukraine) suffered an 8-3 loss at No.1 doubles to Marta Simic and Charlotte Scatliffe. Pacific did earn one doubles victory with junior Clara Schuhmacher (Zaragoza, Spain) and freshman Kateryna Nezhura (Kiev, Ukraine) pairing to defeat Hausman and Kausen 8-7 (4).

In singles play Charlotte Scatliffe, earned the first decision and her second victory of the day defeating Pacific's freshman Olga Gumenyek (Kiev, Ukraine) 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 3 position. The Tigers responded at No. 2, when sophomore Svenja Arens (Bensberg Germany) beat Jill Damion in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. Junior Jolanta Twarowska (Hamburg, Germany) fell to Marta Simic 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 1 singles. Sophomore Sasha Fisher (Southampton, Bermuda) tied the match at 2-2 for the Tigers when she ousted Brittany Kausen 6-2, 6-4 at No. 6 singles.

The final two singles matches that decided the winner both went to three sets. The Tigers notched the first win at the No. 4 positions as freshman Kateryna Nezhura (Kiev, Ukraine) outlasted Asagi Onaga 6-4, 6-7, 6-1 to even the team score at 3-3. Tova Hausman was the deciding factor for the match when she defeated junior Clara Schuhmacher (Zaragoza, Spain) 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 in an exciting game at No. 5.

The Tigers return to the courts tomorrow when they travel to San Luis Obispo to take on the Cal Poly Mustangs. Match is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
