Provo, Utah - The Pacific men's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to Brigham Young University (BYU) on Friday, March 14 at the Tennis Complex in Provo, Utah. The loss dropped the Tigers to 4-7 on the season while the Cougars improved to 9-5 on the year.
BYU jumped out front of the Tigers early, capturing the first point of the match with a sweep of the doubles competition. Pacific played tough in the early goings, but the Cougars were able to capture crucial break points against the Tigers to earn the first point of the match.
Down 1-0, the Tigers rallied in singles action to take home the first two completed matches of the day. Sophomore Renan Delsin posted the first win of the day for the Tigers at the No. 4 singles spot, taking home a 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory over BYU's Evan Urbina to knot the match at one point a piece. Pacific captured its first lead of the day with a victory at No. 2 singles when freshman David Gonzalez came into the clubhouse with a 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 victory over Thomas Shuberts.
Despite the early victories in singles action, the Tigers could not keep the momentum going as Pacific would drop three of the next four singles matches to fall on the road to the Cougars. All but one of the day's singles matches went to three sets.
The Tigers continue play in Provo, Utah on Saturday, March 15, as they take on Portland at 10:30 am at the Tennis Complex on the campus of BYU.
