Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific men's tennis team fell to Texas-San Antonio on Mar. 12 at the Hal Nelson Tennis Courts in Stockton, Calif. by a score of 4-3. Although the match was close and went back and forth, the Tigers fell to 4-6 with the loss, while the Roadrunners improved to 4-8 on the year with their victory.
Moritz Starke (Bamberg, Germany) and Artem Gramma (Krivoj Rog, Ukraine) earned the Tigers' first victory of the day at the No. 1 doubles position. Despite being the first time the duo was paired with each other this spring, the two complimented each other nicely as they earned the 8-5 victory over Texas-San Antonio's Robin Fernandes and Adam Becker.
After winning at the No. 1 doubles position however, the Tigers fell to the Roadrunners at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. At the No. 3 doubles spot, Renan Delsin (Santa Cruz da Conceiacao, Brazil) and Pedro Toledo (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) were up on the Roadrunner's team of Max Stratmann and Daniel Moneiras at match point, but were unable to capitalize as the Tigers eventually went on to surrender the doubles team point to Texas San-Antonio.
In singles action Starke, David Gonzalez (Guayaquil, Ecuador), and Vegerd Veskimagi (Saka, Estonia) each earned victories for the Tigers on the afternoon. However, their efforts were not enough as the Tigers ended the day with their sixth loss of the season. Starke captured his victory at the No. 1 position, while Gonzalez earned his win at the No. 2 spot and Veskimagi captured the third and final win for the Tigers at the No. 5 position.
The Tigers will next be in action on Mar. 14 at 12:00 p.m., when they take on BYU in Provo, Utah.
