Stats

San Jose, Calif. - In their final dual meet of the 2008 calendar year, the Pacific women's swimming team lost a narrow decision to the runners up of the 2008 Nike Cup, San Jose State, 152-104 on Dec. 6.

The loss dropped Pacific to an even 3-3 record in dual meets this season. San Jose climbed to 9-1 after their win.

The Tigers' first individual event victory came in the second race of the day, when junior KC Albiston (Salt Lake City, Utah) dominantly won the 1000 Free and set a new season record for the Tigers with a time of 10:20.29. The next swimmer to touch the wall in the event was San Jose State's Amy Friedhoff, who touched in 10:28.36. Albiston's previous time in the event came at the Bakersfield Quad Meet, when she recorded a speed of 10:24.76.

Two more Tigers recorded first-place finishes for the Pacific women's squad, as junior Melissa McGhee (Elk Grove, Calif.) finished the 200 Fly in 2:05.85 and senior Jun Huang (Guangzhou, China) claimed the 200 Back with a speed of 2:03.95.

Freshman Jayme Swalin (Kenmore, Wash.) and Huang both missed out on the opportunity to score more individual points for Pacific, when they finished second in the 200 Free and the 100 Back, respectively.

Swalin's 1:55.17 time in the 200 Free was barely topped by Juliet Moss, who gave the Spartans a first-place finish with her 1:54.58 time in the event. San Jose State's Heather Denman stole another first-place chance from Huang, when she touched the wall only .13 seconds faster than Huang, in 56.59.

In relay efforts, the Tigers won the final event of the day in the 400 Free Relay, as Swalin, McGhee, Huang and Albiston all teamed up for a 3:43.76 finish to end the day.

The Tigers next return to dual meet action alongside the men's swimming team against Stanford at 2 p.m. on Jan. 10, 2009.
