Long Beach, Calif. - After the second day of competition in the 2008 Nike Cup, the men's team placed in the top 10 in six events to record 318.5 overall points in sixth place of 13 teams. The women finished in the top 10 in four events and have now recorded 377 points to position themselves in sixth of 21 teams on Nov. 21.

The Tigers' best race came from senior Jun Huang (Guangzhou, China) who took a third-place finish in the 100 Back. In that race, only one second separated Huang from senior Jenny Lewis's (Hesperia, Calif.) seventh-place 57.05 finish and junior Devonie Migues (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) whose 57.45 speed placed her just out of the top 10 with an 11th place touch.

In that same event for the men, sophomore Dave Mathews (Dublin, Ireland) recorded a 51.95 time which placed him in the 10th spot overall.

Pacific's best men's race came in a distance event as senior Matt Lundy (Lafayette, Colo.) and freshman Kevin Byers (Pullayup, Wash.) finished in fifth and 10th place respectively in the 400 IM. Lundy completed the event with a 4:04.89 time while Byers recorded a 4:10.14.

Junior Melissa McGhee (Elk Grove, Calif.) repeated Mathews's success in the pool for the women when she, too, finished the 400 IM in 10th place, just ahead of junior KC Albiston (Salt Lake City, Utah) in 12th. McGhee placed in the top 10 by virtue of a 4:27.37 time, while Albiston just missed out, touching in 4:28.93.

For relay events, the men's squad of Lundy, seniors Patrick Walton (Lodi, Calif.), Justin Canty (El Cajon, Calif.) and Stephen Quinn (Livermore, Calif.) combined for a seventh-place race in the 800 Free Relay, when they touched the wall in 6:57.77, five seconds faster than Big West Conference competitor Cal State Northridge, whose relay team finished in eighth.

The Tiger women pulled off an equally impressive relay time in the 200 Medley Relay, when Huang, senior April Woo (Honolulu, Hawaii), freshman Elena Walterman (Framingham, Mass.) and Lewis split up to post a 1:46.91 time in sixth place.

Pacific hits the water one more time in the final day of the 2008 Nike Cup, which ends tomorrow, Nov. 22.
