Stockton, Calif. - Led by two RBI and two runs scored from senior Joe Oliveira (San Diego, Calif.), the Black Tigers took the first game in the annual Orange and Black World Series, defeating the Orange Tigers, 5-1.
The 2008 Orange and Black World Series will consist of three games from Nov. 19-21.
While Oliveira provided the offense for the Black Tigers, sophomore Thomas Berolzheimer (Stockton, Calif.) led on the mound with two scoreless innings and three strikeouts.
Junior Jamie Niley (Elk Grove, Calif.) added a solo home run for the Black squad.
Sophomore Brian Martin (Livermore, Calif.) and freshman Jake Sylvester (Livermore, Calif.) led the Orange team with a combined three doubles.
The second game of the 2008 Orange and Black World Series will begin at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 20. Junior Hunter Carnevale (Roseville, Calif.) gets the start for the Orange team, while Niley will start for the Black Tigers.
