Dons Halt Tigers’ Late Rally to Even Series

SAN FRANCISCO – The Pacific baseball program came up short in the second game of its West Coast Conference series in the Bay Area to San Francisco, 5-3, on Saturday afternoon at Benedetti Diamond.

The Tigers' (16-24, 8-9 WCC) streak of quality starts in conference play was snapped with the Dons (20-20, 11-6 WCC) jumping out in front offensively and holding down the late-game pressure to even up the series.

Senior Grant MacArthur returned to the lineup, crushing his third home run of the season and second in conference action. MacArthur finished the day with two of the Tigers' six hits on the afternoon for his seventh multi-hit game of the year.

Junior Derek Bartram came in off the bench and hit a pinch-hit solo shot for his second home run of the 2026 campaign and first since Feb. 25 against Sacramento State, cutting USF's lead to two at that point in the eighth inning.

MacArthur and Bartram's big flies mark the sixth straight game a Tiger has hit a home run, tying a season-long stretch from Feb. 21 to March 3.

Graduate student Adan Perez (0-3) pitched a pair of scoreless frames before allowing five earned runs in the next three innings. The Dons received a gem on the mound from Gauge Lockhart, who allowed just one run in six innings with the home run to MacArthur. Redshirt senior Nathen Nino picked up his teammate nicely out of the pen, pitching 3.2 scoreless innings.

The Dons struck first in the bottom of the third with a two-out knock and added two more in each of the next two frames to go up, 5-0, after five. Pacific rallied late with four extra-base hits but ultimately fell short of completing a comeback. The Tigers got the tying run to the plate in the ninth, however they could not bring it across.

Pacific and USF will compete in the rubber match tomorrow from the Hilltop with a 1 p.m. first pitch.
