Pacific Squads Combine for 11 Event Victories, Drop First Meet to California

Stockton, Calif. - In the first dual swim meet of the year, the Pacific men's team won five of its 14 events against California and dropped the meet 135-113, while the women won six of their 14 events to ultimately lose 147.5-103.5 to California on Oct. 11.

For the women, last year's CollegeSwimming.com All-American Honorable Mention recipient, senior Jun Huang (Guangzhou, China) led all Tigers, nabbing victories in three of the day's events. Huang excelled in both the 100 and 200 Back with times of 58.05 and 2:04.33, respectively, while adding a third win in the day's final 200 Free Relay (1:41.43) along with junior Devonie Migues (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.), sophomore Nikki Yamamoto (Honolulu, Hawaii) and senior April Woo (Honolulu, Hawaii).

Migues also claimed an individual victory in the 200 Breast when she finished with a time of 2:28.92, narrowly edging out Cal's Kristyn Colonias by over half a second. Junior Melissa McGhee (Elk Grove, Calif.) took the 100 Fly in 1:00.33, while junior KC Albiston (Salt Lake City, Utah) completed the individual event winners for the women with a 4:36.23 in the 400 IM.

On the men's side, senior Matt Lundy (Lafayette, Colo.) led the Tigers with a 1:56.10 time in the 500 Free. He was also a part of the 200 Free Relay squad that finished with a time of 1:30.65, claiming two of the men's five event victories. Joining Lundy in the 200 Free Relay were senior Michael Kasten (Livermore, Calif.), freshman Jack Pope (Lahaina, Hawaii) and senior Stephen Quinn (Livermore, Calif.). In the day's longest event, Lundy took second in the 1000 Free (9:48.20), finishing almost 10 seconds faster than the third place swimmer, John Foster of Cal.

Junior Patrick Walton (Lodi, Calif.) was the top competitor in the 200 Breast after a time of 2:16.70, while senior BJ Damazo (Paradise, Calif.) claimed the 100 Fly for all swimmers with a time of 53.89. Freshman Kevin Byers (Puyallup, Wash.) closed out the individual event victories for Pacific's men's team, after he touched the wall in 4:21.18.

The Tigers next return to action next weekend, when they host the 2008 Pacific Invitational here at Chris Kjeldsen Pool. The meet begins on Friday, Oct. 17 at 2 p.m., while Saturday's events have changed to begin at 12:30 p.m.
