Fresno, California -
The Pacific golf team, led once again by senior Thomas Petersson, shot a 298-296 during the first day of the Fresno Lexus Classic at Sunnyside Golf Course. Petersson's two-under 36-hole score left him just a stroke back of the individual lead entering the final round tomorrow morning.
The Tigers, who are tied for seventh after 36-holes, opened the tournament with a 298 this morning and a second round 296 at the 6,946-yard, par 72 course. The 15-team tournament allows each team to play six golfers and take the top four scores each round, a change from the usual "play five, take four scores" format.
"I'm really proud of the way Thomas has played. He's been a stronghold for the program over the last year or so and he's got a great chance to go out there tomorrow and win this tournament," said head coach Brandon Goethals. "We will continue to go to work as a team and do the things that will propel us to the next level."
Along with Petersson's 71-71 showing the Tigers got support from an array of players. Junior Chris Rosenau fired a 76-73 and freshman Patrick Kucich posted rounds of 76-77. Freshman Bayhaan Lakdawala and junior A.J. Hohn shot scores of 81 and 75 each for a 36-hole total of 156.
The Tigers close out the Fresno Lexus Classic tomorrow morning with a final 18-holes.
