Pacific Women in Second, Men in Fourth after Day Two of Big West Swimming and Diving Championships

Long Beach, Calif. - After day two of the 2007 Big West Swimming and Diving Championships the Pacific women are currently in second place with 272 points, while the men are in fourth with 229.

In day two of the four day meet, the Tigers finished with five second place finishes and two third place finishes. As for the individual events, freshman Brooke Cashion (Irvine, Calif.) finished in second place in the 500 Free with a time of 4:54.87 and junior Krzysztof Zoldak (Oswiecim, Poland) finished in second in the 200 IM with a time of 1:48.92.

In the 400 Medley Relay both the men and the women finished in second place for the Tigers. The men's team made up of Wojciech Betlej (Mielec, Poland), David Dunn (Morgan Hill, Calif.), Clint McLaughlin (El Cajon, Calif.), and Casey Lowdermilk (Parker, Colo.) swam the second fastest time in school history with a 3:17.69, while the women's team made up of Jun Huang (Guangzhou, China), Ziada Jardine (Cape Town, South Africa), Kristin Okazaki (Auburn, Wash.), and Ja-Neil Bragg (Manteca, Calif.) recorded a time of 3:44.29.

Juniors Bragg and Betlej both finished in third place in the 200 IM in addition to participating on the relay teams. In the event, Bragg recorded a time of 2:02.46, while Betlej touched at 1:50.55.

Head Coach Greg Meehan was proud of how the team inspired each other in day two of the meet. "We swam some fast splits today and we had some people step up to overcome challenges when we really needed them to," said Meehan. "It was a great team effort today and we look forward to getting back in the pool tomorrow."
