Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific women's volleyball team fell in a five game match at the hands of the visiting Anteaters of UC Irvine on Saturday, November 3. The loss dropped the Tigers to 14-8 overall and 7-6 in the Big West while the Anteaters improved to 19-8 overall and 9-3 in conference action.

Game scores for the match were: 30-26, 25-30, 21-30, 30-22, 15-11.

UC Irvine powered their way to a 30-25 win in game number one as the Anteaters connected on 17 kills and committed just three errors in 39 attempts for a .359 hitting percentage.

Tied 17-17 in game two, Pacific took advantage of three consecutive errors to build a 20-17 lead. UC Irvine drew back within a point at 23-22, but two more errors pushed the Tiger lead back to three at 25-22. That window gave the Tigers the only advantage they would need as Pacific claimed the 30-25 victory on a kill from junior setter Shannon Krug (Colorado Springs, Colo.).

Freshman Svenja Engelhardt (Sinsheim, Germany) took over game three as she almost single handedly earned the Tigers' victory. Tied at 15-15, Engelhardt strode to the service line. Svenja sandwiched four aces around a UC Irvine error to give the Tigers a 20-15 edge.

Engelhardt's service streak continued when junior Kara Uhl (Cypress, Calif.) pounded down her third kill of the game. Following another UC Irvine error, Engelhardt connected on two more aces giving her six in the game. Staked to a 24-15 lead, Pacific went on for the 30-21 win.

Unfortunately the Anteaters were able to rally in the final two games as UC Irvine posted a .294 hitting percentage in game four, while the Tigers hit just .070. In the deciding game five the Anteaters did not committ an error but connected on 10 kill to win game five, 15-12.

Senior Johanna Hilbers (Omaha, Neb.) led Pacific with 16 kills, while Engelhardt finished with 15.

Lauren Kellerman led all attackers with 24 kills in the match.

The Tigers return to the court on Friday, Nov. 9 as Pacific takes on Cal State Northridge in the first of two road contests over the weekend. The Tigers match with the Matadors will begin at 7 p.m. in the Matadome.
