POCATELLO, Idaho -- The Pacific women's volleyball program battled throughout Friday's matchup in the Orange & Black Classic, taking leads in the first and third sets before ultimately falling short to Boise State in straight sets, 25-23, 25-10, 25-17 at Reed Gym.
The Tigers (4-7) came out attacking early, taking a 17-7 lead in the first set, highlighted by the team's ten kills during that stretch. The Broncos (7-5) responded with an 18-6 run of their own to take the opening set and carried that momentum through the second set.
Pacific continued to compete throughout the match, taking a 13-11 lead in the third set before the Broncos pulled away. Offensively, junior
Nicole Zake led the way with 13 kills, bringing her season total to a team high 116. Sophomore
Julia Porath also continued her strong play, recording seven kills.
Junior
Alessia Couchond made a strong impact on both sides, setting up her teammates with a team-high 28 assists on the afternoon while also recording a team-high 12 digs. Her 84 digs this season now rank second on the team.
Pacific also received strong contributions defensively from sophomores
Ella Gridley and
Bella Gutierrez, and freshman Ellia Prindl. Gridley and Gutierrez each recorded nine digs, with Gutierrez adding four assists. Prindl tied Porath for the team lead in block assists with four. As a team, the Tigers finished with 49 digs compared to 47 for the Broncos.
From the service line, Porath, Zake, Gutierrez, and Gridley each recorded an ace for the Tigers.
To close out non-conference play and the Orange & Black classic, the Tigers will take on the Wyoming Cowgirls. First serve is set for 10 a.m. on Saturday from Reed Gym and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
