Tigers Finish First in Four of Eight Events at Day One of Washington State Invitational

Pullman, Wash. - The Pacific women's swimming team kicked off the Debbie Pipher Memorial Invitational hosted by the Washington State Cougars with four first place finishes and three second place performances on Nov. 2. Junior Jenny Lewis (Hesperia, Calif.) led the Tigers with two first place finishes on the night, while Senior Ja-Neil Bragg (Manteca, Calif.) finished first in one individual event and also set a Gibb Pool record.

In the first event of the four team meet, the Tigers got off to a strong start by finishing first in the 400 Medley Relay. The Pacific relay team was made up of Lewis, Ziada Jardine (Cape Town, South Africa), Kristin Okazaki (Auburn, Wash), and Bragg, as the four combined to swim a time of 3:48.79. In addition to swimming well in the relay, each of the four also had impressive individual performances throughout the evening.

In the second and third events of the night, Bragg finished first in the 400 IM and second in the 200 Free to keep the Tigers rolling. Bragg finished the 400 IM with a time of 4:26.67 and touched second in the 200 Free with a time of 1:53.22. Her mark of 4:26.67 in the 400 IM set a new pool record.

Lewis also recorded two first place finishes in the meet as she finished first in the 100 Back and in 50 Free. She first swam a time of 57.27 in the 100 Back and then came back two events later to win the 50 Free with a time of 23.91.

Recording other second place finishes for the Tigers were Okazaki and Jardine. Okazki fell just short of winning the 100 Fly with a time of 57.32, while Jardine was edged out by Washington State's Elyse Peterson in the 100 Breast to finish in second place with a time of 1:05.32.

The Debbie Pipher Memorial Invitational will continue tomorrow at Gibb Pool in Pullman, Wash. The meet will resume at noon.
