Long Beach, Calif. - Senior Ja-Neil Bragg (Manteca, Calif.) qualified for the NCAA Championship in the 400 IM, then won the 200 Free as the Pacific women's swim team remained in third place at the 21-team Nike Cup following the second day of competition on Friday, Nov. 16.
Bragg started her day off with a bang as she delivered a NCAA automatic qualifying time of 4:14.81 in the preliminaries of the 400 IM. That mark set a new Pacific record in the 400 IM and is the new meet record as well. Having already qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 400 IM, Bragg chose to focus on the 200 Free and did not swim in the finals of the 400 IM. Although Bragg's preliminary time was just under two seconds faster the than event winning time in the 400 IM.
Bragg's decision to focus on the 200 Free, paid off as she earned an individual victory with a time of 1:49.14. Bragg out swam 146 other competitors in the 200 Free.
Two other Tigers turned in impressive individual performances as senior Ziada Jardine (Capetown, South Africa) and junior Jenny Lewis (Hesperia, Calif.) placed third in the 100 Back and 100 Breast. Jardine's time of 1:04.27 was a little over two seconds behind the leader. Meanwhile, Lewis posted a time of 56.47, less than a second back of the event winner.
The Tigers will conclude action at the Nike Cup Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 17.
