Tigers Fall in Three at UC Irvine

Irvine, Calif. - The Pacific women's volleyball team fell to 9-4 on the season 3-2 in Big West with a 3-0 loss at UC Irvine on Friday, Oct. 5. The Anteaters improved to 13-6 (3-1 BWC) with the 30-23, 30-24, 30-26 victory.

The Anteaters took control of the first two games at the midway point, extending to a lead of 26-20 in each game. Kari Pestolesi had six kills in game one to lead the Anteaters, who out-hit the Tigers .344-.258 in the first game. The Tigers hit much better in the second game (.324), but were unable to detour the Anteaters. Freshman Svenja Engelhardt (Sinsheim, Germany) led the Tigers with four kills in each of the first two games.

In the third game, the Anteaters led 15-11 and extended to 24-17, rolling to the three set victory. UC Irvine used 5.5 blocks in game three to hold Pacific to a hitting percentage of .025. The Tigers had 14 kills and 13 errors in game three.

Senior Johanna Hilbers (Omaha, Neb.) led the Tigers with 14 kills, hitting .524 for the match. Engelhardt finished with 10 kills for Pacific. Tiger senior Julie Magud (Stockton, Calif.) led the Tigers with 13 digs. Junior Alexa Anderson (Los Gatos, Calif.) added nine kills

Pestolesi led the Anteaters with 12 kills, while Lauren Kellerman added 11.

Pacific is next in action at UC Riverside on Saturday, Oct. 6 with a 7:00 p.m. match.
