Final Results
Berkeley, Calif. - The Pacific women's swimming team fell to Cal in their first meet of the season on Oct. 5 in Berkeley, Calif. by a score of 163-90. With the loss, the Tigers fell to 0-1 to start their 2007-08 season, while the Bears advanced to 1-0 in dual meets on the year.
In the meet, Ja-Neil Bragg (Manteca, Calif.) earned the Tigers' only first place finish of the day, as she touched first in the 400 IM with a time of 4:21.34. Bragg also finished in second place in the 200 Free and the 200 Back in the meet with times of 1:51.60 and 2:07.50 respectively.
Other top finishers for the Tigers included Kristin Okazaki (Auburn, Wash.) who finished second in the 100 and 200 Fly events and Ziada Jardine (Cape Town, South Africa) who recorded second place finishes in the 100 Breast and the 200 Breast. Okazaki recorded a time of 58.10 in the 100 Fly and a time of 2:04.66 in the 200 Fly, while Jardine recorded times of 1:04.65 and 2:24.60 in the 100 and 200 Fly events.
The Tigers also fared well in the Freestyle events in the loss to Cal. Jenny Lewis (Hesperia, Calif.) finished second in the 100 Free with a time of 53.66, Brooke Cashion (Irvine, Calif.) recorded a time of 5:10.00 to finish in second place in the 500 Free, and Sarah Gutierrez (San Jose, Calif.) was the third to touch in the 1000 Free with a time of 10:46.60.
In the 200 Free Relay, Lewis, Samantha Caldwell (Phoenix, Ariz.), April Woo (Honolulu, Hawai'i), and Bragg teamed up to record a time of 1:38.17, which earned the relay team a second place finish. The Tigers also finished second in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:47.89. That relay team was made up of Lewis, Jardine, Okazaki, and Bragg.
The Pacific women's swimming team will next be in action on Oct. 19-20 at the Pacific Invitational. The meet will start at 2:00 on Oct. 19 and will resume the following day at noon.
