Long Beach, Calif. - Behind a fourth place finish from freshman Alex Johnson (Tucson, Arizona), the Pacific golf team completed the Del Walker Intercollegiate in second place with a 10-under par, 842. The second place finish marked the highest team finish for the Tigers since winning the Stevinson Ranch Invitational in 2003. The Tigers were just one stroke out from claiming the tournament championship as Colorado State grabbed the trophy with an 11-under par, 841.
Johnson finished the tournament in a tie for fourth place after shooting a 1-over, 72, in the final round of play to complete the three round tournament at 4-under par, 209. Not far behind Johnson, senior Chris Rosenau (Redding, Calif.) finished the tournament in a tie for seventh place overall after finring off an even par, 71, in the final round to finish at 3-under par. Joining Rosenau at 3-under for the tournament was freshman T.J. Bordeaux (Tacoma, Wash.) who matched Rosenau's 71 with one of his own to finish at 3-under, as well.
Pacific's 842 overall score was the Tigers' lowest three round tournament score since 1990-91. At 10-under par on the par 71 Virginia Country Club course, the Tigers were one back of their program low of 11-under par for a tournament set last season at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate when the Tigers fired off an 853 on the par 72 Alisal River Course.
The Tigers will be back to tournament action on Monday, November 5, when they host The Pacific Invitational hosted by the Stockton Sports Commission and Ron Berberian at Brookside Country Club in Stockton, Calif. For more information about the tournament visit: www.PacificInvitational.com.
