Led by freshman Alex Johnson's back-to-back rounds of 69-68 the Pacific golf team shot a 36-hole score of 559 to sit in first place at the Del Walker Intercollegiate after day one. The Tigers share the lead with Houston which also came into the clubhouse with at nine-under.
Freshman Johnson and T.J. Bordeaux both posted rounds of 69 at Virginia Country Club during the first round to give the Tigers an even 284 to start things off. Johnson will enter the third and final round of the tournament on Friday with a chance at the overall individual title after finishing the first day in second place overall.
Chris Rosenau, fresh off of yesterday's practice round 62, battled back in the afternoon to shoot a 67. The Tigers pick up the action tomorrow morning with a final 18-hole at the Long Beach country club.
