Middletown, Rhode Island -
The Pacific golf team shot a final round 306 Wednesday morning to finish in seventh place at the Adam's Cup. The Tigers posted a 54-hole score of 304-298-306=908 at Newport National Golf Club.
Senior Thomas Petersson once again led the Tigers, shooting a final round 75 to finish in a tie for 17th place. This time however, Petersson didn't go at it alone as sophomore Charles Van Sicklen also finished in 17th place with a 227 at the 7,244-yard course. Both players finished at +11 for the two-day event.
Also pacing the Tigers was junior Chris Rosenau and freshman Bayhaan Lakdawala. Rosenau finished with a 78 to tie for 28th while Lakdawala struggled down the stretch in his first collegiate tournament, shooting a final round 82. Junior A.J. Hohn finished with a 54-hole score of 236.
"We gave up some strokes today and that hurt us coming down the stretch," said head coach Brandon Goethals. "We ended up in the middle of the pack (in seventh) today and while that's not terrible it's not where we want to be. We're better than a "middle of the pack" team and we going to keep working until we get there."
The 2006 Adam's Cup team title went to the University of South Florida, who shot an 894 over the two-day event. Host school Rhode Island and nearby Hartford cruised in to tie for second place. Joel Myrick of Southern Mississippi maintained his first day lead to win the individual title with a final round 73.
The Tigers travel back across the country today and have less than a month before it's back across the United States for a return trip to the East Coast. This time to take part in the 49er Collegiate Classic in Charlotte, North Carolina.
