Newport, Rhode Island -
The Pacific golf team finished the first day of the Adam's Cup in ninth place on Tuesday, September 26. The Tigers are just 10-strokes off the lead at the Newport National Golf Club going into tomorrow's final round.
Freshman Bayhaan Lakdawala, playing in his first collegiate tournament, leads the Tigers after day one of play. Lakdawala posted rounds of 76 and 74 to sit in a tie for 19th place. Close behind are teammates Charlie Van Sicklen (21st), Thomas Petersson (26th) and Chris Rosenau (26th). Van Sicklen is just a stroke behind Lakdawala while upperclassmen Petersson and Rosenau both fired two-round totals of 152 at the 7,244-yard, par 72 course.
"The course played tough today but we responded well at times and we've put ourselves in a good position," said coach Brandon Goethals. "Being just ten strokes back is certainly not insurmountable and we just need to go out there tomorrow, play smart golf and gain some ground."
The Tiger's opening rounds of 304 and 298 kept them in the race for the team title while host school Rhode Island leads the team standings, shooting a combined 592 over the first 36 holes. Individually, Joel Myrick of Southern Mississippi posted rounds of 71 and 69 to finish day one in first place.
The Adam's Cup concludes tomorrow morning with a final 18-hole round scheduled to start at 8:00 am ET.
