The Pacific golf team opened their 2006-07 season at the Del Walker Intercollegiate Thursday morning. The Tigers are currently in 14th after 36-holes of play at Virginia Country Club.
Senior Thomas Petersson is in a tie for 12th place after day one, posting a 69-74=143 at the 6,633-yard par-71 course. Petersson's +1 opening rounds puts him just four strokes off the lead going into the final round tomorrow morning.
Junior Chris Rosenau shot a 73-75=148 while teammate Brett Giurlani ended his day with scores of 76 and 74. Senior Reid Scarff is in 69th place after opening round scores of 77-76 and junior A.J. Hohn rounds out the field for the Tigers, posting a 80-78=158.
"Where we're sitting right now is unacceptable," said coach Brandon Goethals. "We're not in a great place and we need to dig down and find our way out of it. I know our guys are capable of it and we need to show that tomorrow."
St Mary's - California and Arkansas are tied for the team lead as both schools posted one-over 569's on the opening day of the tournament. Individually teammates Kyle Collins and Thomas Kearney of Texas - San Antonio lead at three-under par.
The final round of the Del Walker Intercollegiate will take place Friday, September 15.
