Stockton, Calif. - Playing without two of their three two athletes, the Pacific Tigers men's tennis team was defeated by UC Santa Barbara, 7-0, on Saturday, Apr. 1.
The loss dropped the Tigers to 11-5 overall and 2-1 in the Big West Conference, while Santa Barbara moved to 10-7 on the season and 2-0 in conference play.
Playing without seniors Arnar Sigurdsson (Kopavogur, Iceland) or Vladimir Zdravkovic (Pancevo, Serbia and Montenegro), who are the Tigers' No. 1 and No. 3 players respectively, Pacific split the top two doubles positions with the Guachos. The Tigers also split the first three sets at each of the top three singles matches, however, because the Gauchos already clinched the match with the doubles point and victories at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6, the top three matches played only a super-tiebreaker.
The Tigers will be back in action on Sunday, Apr. 5 as Pacific travels to San Luis Obispo, Calif. to take on the Cal Poly at 1 p.m.
