Costa Mesa, California - The Pacific golf team finished the Anteater Invitational in fifth place after heavy rains forced third-round play to be cancelled. The Tigers shot a 294-304=598 for the tournament at the Mesa Verde Country Club.

Junior Thomas Petersson (Stockholm, Sweden) shot a one-under 69 to open things up for Pacific and followed up with a 79 on the par-70, 6,695-yard course. His 15th place finish (148) led the Tigers at the UC Irvine hosted event and left him nine strokes back from the eventual leader, Travis Bertoni of Cal Poly. Bertoni carded a 69-70=139.

Sophomore Chris Rosenau (Redding, Calif.) played to a 74-75=149 to finish in 19th place and freshman Adam Beckman (Lodi, Calif.) fired a 78-72, 21st overall. Sophomore A.J. Hohn (Lodi, Calif.) shot a 73-83 and freshman Charles Van Sicklen (Stockton, Calif.) finished in 46th after shooting an 83-78.

"I'm proud of the guys, the way they went out and played yesterday, but we gave away some strokes and we can't do that at this level," said head coach Brandon Goethals. "As the year progresses we need to play the way we do at home, on the road. I would have liked to see us put things together today but unfortunetly with the rains we didn't get that chance."

Santa Clara took the team title, shooting a 293-285=578. Arizona B finished in second at 584 and UC Irvine took third with a 586.

The Tigers next tournament is the Braveheart Classic on March 6-7. UC Riverside hosts the event, held in Beaumont, California at the Oak Valley Golf Club.
