Feb. 27, 2006

Costa Mesa, Calif. - The Pacific golf team played the first 36-holes of the Anteater Invitational through wet conditions Monday, February 27 at Mesa Verde Country Club. The Tigers shot a 294-304=598 at the UC Irvine hosted tournament to finish Day One in fifth place.

Junior Thomas Petersson shot a one-under 69 to open things up for Pacific and followed up with a 79 on the par-70, 6,695-yard course. Petersson's 148 sat him in 15th place, nine strokes back from the leader, Travis Bertoni of Cal Poly. Bertoni carded a 69-70=139.

Sophomore Chris Rosenau played to a 74-75=149 to stay in 19th place and freshman Adam Beckman fired a 78-72, 21st overall.

"Overall we hung in there throughout the day," said coach Brandon Goethals. "The morning rounds went a little better than the afternoon (rain started midway through the second round) when we gave away some shots."

Santa Clara leads the team scoring, shooting a 293-285=578 to stay atop the leaderboard. Arizona B remains in second at 584, UC Irvine at third with a 586 and Cal Poly rounds out the top four by shooting a 589.
