Pacific falls to Cal State Northridge, 80-59

Northridge, Calif. - The Pacific Tigers women's basketball team fell, 80-59, to Cal State Northrdige on Saturday, Feb. 25.

The loss dropped Pacific to 6-19 on the season and 3-9 in the Big West Conference, while Cal State Northridge improved to 8-17 overall and 5-7 in conference.

The Tigers fell behind 22-4 with 10:31 remaining in the first half. Pacific, however, battled back to within seven points at 29-22 with just over three minutes in the half. Freshman Renee Roberts (Lodi, Calif.) led the Tigers' charge as she nailed three first-half treys to lead the comeback.

Unfortunately, the Matadors delivered the last run of the half and took a 38-25 lead into halftime.

After Cal State Northridge opened the second half with a free throw to make it a 39-25 contest, Pacific scored 18 of the next 21 points in the game to make it a one possession game at 45-42 with 14:09 remaining in the game. This time it was senior Carolina Ruiz (Paradise, Calif.) and sophomore Kelsey Lavender (Lake Oswego, Ore.) leading the way as each Tiger scored five points during the run.

Pacific, however, could not get over the hump, allowing Cal State Northridge to regain control as the Matadors went on a 13-4 run to lead 58-46 with just under 10 minutes remaining in the game.

Cal State Northridge went on to push its lead to 21 points at the end of the game, 80-59.

Ruiz led the Tigers with 16 points, while Roberts had 15 points.

Jaime McCaa and LaJoyce King led Cal State Northridge with a game-high 17 points.

Pacific will be back in action as the Tigers travel to Santa Barbara, Calif. to face the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos at 7 p.m.
