Stockton, Calif. - Tied 3-3, junior Alan Kelly (Dublin, Ireland) lifted Pacific to a 4-3 win over UC Davis with a dramatic comeback victory on Sunday, Jan. 29.
With the win the Tigers moved to 2-0 on the season, while UC Davis fell to 0-4.
The Tigers fell behind 1-0 as UC Davis claimed the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.
Pacific, however, seemed to take control of the match with straight set victories at the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 5 positions in singles, claiming a 3-1 in the team match.
UC Davis evened the match with three set victories at No. 3 and No. 6, placing the team match in the hands of Kelly for the Tigers and Justin Garcia for UC Davis at the No. 4 position.
Garcia won the first set against Kelly, 4-6. Trailing 4-1 and battling through a bloody nose in the second set, Kelly won the final five games send it to a third and decisive set. Kelly garnered an early break to take control of the third set, then collected a second break at 5-3 to claim the victory for himself and the Tigers.
The Tigers will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 3 as Pacific hits the road to face Arizona State at 1:30 p.m.
