Stockton, Calif. - Coming back home after eight straight road contests, the Tigers took advantage of their home confines to capture a 5-2 win over the University of Portland on Friday, April 1. It also marked the 100th win of head coach Guido Baumann's coaching career at Pacific. He is now 100-76 in his eight years as the Men's head tennis coach.
With the win the Tigers jumped back over the .500 mark for the season, improving to 8-7 overall in 2005.
After taking the doubles point, capturing both the No. 2 and 3 doubles matches, the Tigers used strong play in the singles to win the match. Junior Arnar Sigurdsson (Kopavogur, Iceland) continued his dominance at No. 1 singles, cruising to a 6-2, 6-3, win over Matt Loucks. Sophomores Vladimir Zdrovkova (Pancevo, Serbia and Montenegro) and Alan Kelly (Dublin, Ireland) kept pace with Sigurdsson, cruing to victories at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively, while taking thier doubles matches as well.
The Tigers will next be in action on Sunday, April 3 as they travel to Fresno, Calif. to take on the Fresno State Bulldogs. Match time is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
