Pacific senior Adam Ching (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.), led three Tigers on all-league teams by earning All-Big West Conference Second Team honors when the league's yearly baseball awards were announced on Tuesday, May 27. Junior Joe Oliveira (San Diego, Calif.) and freshman Nick Longmire (San Diego, Calif.) earned 2008 All-Big West Conference honorable mention accolades.
Ching hit .323 for the Tigers, leading the team in hits with 72. He played both second base and shortstop for the Tigers in 2008, and was tied for second on the team with 27 runs. Adam is second on Pacific's career hit list with 213, including 24 multi-hit games in 2008. He is among the career top 10 in at-bats, runs scored, doubles, total bases and holds the top spot in hit by pitch.
Longmire tied Ching for the top spot on the team in average with a .323 mark, and was second on the team with 64 hits. He hit .333 in Big West games, and did not have an error in 54 Big West chances. He had 18 multi-hit games, including two four-hit games. Nick tied for the longest hitting streak on the team, with an 11-game stretch.
Oliveira was the only Tiger to play all 55 games this year, and was fourth on the team with 57 hits. He led the team with 24 stolen bases and 40 runs, and was third in the Big West base swipes. He earned 33 walks on the season, which was second in the Big West and tops on the team. Joe also threw out 42% of base stealers on the year. Oliveira had 19 multi-hit games on the season, including one four-hit game.
