LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Three Tigers scored in double figures to contribute to Pacific's 64-52 win over San Diego Friday afternoon, securing its spot in the third round of the WCC Conference Tournament at the Orleans Arena.
Graduate
Liz Smith was the biggest contributor of the three in double figures, posting a game-high 19 points on 4-for-10 shooting and 9-for-10 from the free throw line. The graduate was also a key factor rebounding the ball with six boards for her best rebounding game since Feb. 6 at Santa Clara.
Senior
Elizabeth Elliott was a force down in the post with 15 points on 6-for-11 shooting to go along with four rebounds and two steals.
Sophomore
Marina Radocaj also reached the double-digit mark for the fifth time this season and the Tigers are 4-1 in such games.
Not the scorer she was at the tournament a season ago, senior
Anaya James found other ways to impact the team with her four assist, four steal and two block stat line – the last stat of which ties her season high in the category.
Offensive rebounds again played a big role against the Toreros (7-24) with Pacific outrebounding San Diego on the offensive glass 18-10, seven of which came from junior
Sydney Ward. The team's second leading offensive rebounder on the season, she grabbed more than five offensive boards for the fourth time this season.
The Tiger defense also stymied San Diego the entire way, never once surrendering the lead and holding it for 36:38 out of 40 possible minutes.
With the win, Pacific will meet the number six seeded Saint Mary's Gaels in the third round looking to avenge two losses suffered in the regular season to SMC. At home in December, Smith posted her career-high 30 points against the Gaels.
Tipoff is scheduled for 2:30 on ESPN+.
