STOCKTON, Calif. – Pacific volleyball battled back from a 2-1 deficit to force a fifth set, but ultimately fell 3-2 (25-19, 23-25, 24-26, 25-19, 13-15) to San Francisco inside the Alex G. Spanos Center Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers (14-9, 4-7 WCC) held a 5-2 lead to open the fifth set before surrendering a 4-0 run to San Francisco (13-9, 6-4 WCC) run that preceded a back-and-forth affair that eventually went the Dons way.
Graduate outside hitter
Alexa Edwards picked up where she left off after Thursday, amassing another 24 kills to lead all players and move her season total to 413 kills. With seven matches remaining, Edwards needs 81 more kills to reach 10th in single season kills in Pacific history. She would be the first to crack this list since Lexi Elman in 2015.
Junior
Emily Van Groningen found her swing for the match, totaling a new career-high 16 kills and surpassing her previous high, set earlier this season at Grand Canyon.
Assisting Edwards and Van Groningen were senior
Jenna Heller and junior
Jayhlin Swain who chipped in 45 and 14 assists respectively and each totaled double doubles by adding 19 and 21 digs to their final stat lines.
Swain was also particularly effective from the service line, matching her career high three aces, all of which came in the second set. In fact, she led a Tiger serve that notched 10 aces, a season high for Pacific and its most in a match since Nov. 2, 2023, at San Francisco.
Pacific will be on the road next week for a tour of Washington, beginning Thursday at Washington State before concluding on Saturday at Gonzaga. Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
