Volleyball Pulls Off Dramatic Five Set Comeback Win

STOCKTON, Calif. – Trailing by two sets, the Pacific volleyball program completed a 3-2 (14-25, 22-25, 25-15, 25-21, 15-12) reverse sweep over Oregon State on Wednesday in front of the home crowd at the Alex G. Spanos Center.

Pacific (16-10, 6-8 WCC) improved to 7-2 in five-set matches this season and it was the second time it came back from two sets down.

Graduate Alexa Edwards continued to be a dangerous attack option, swinging for a match high 24 kills and taking sole possession of third place on the all-time kills list in the West Coast Conference. She's reached the 20-kill milestone in four of her last five matches to bring her career total to 1,835.

Junior Emily Van Groningen, who tallied the kill on match point, turned in an all-around effort with nine kills, four aces, two blocked shots, eight digs, and an assist. The digs and aces set new career highs for the junior and has been heavily involved in the previous four matches, swinging for no fewer than seven kills a match.

In the middle alongside Van Groningen, graduate Margherita Giani posted an efficient seven kills on just eleven attempts with no errors, and her seven kills is her best match since October 19, 2024, against San Francisco.

Defensively, junior Jayhlin Swain racked up 24 digs to post the third 20-plus dig match in her past four outings.

Oregon State (8-15, 6-7 WCC) was led offensively by the combination of Annika Hester and Lauren Rumel with 16 kills apiece.

In its next match, Pacific plays on the road for the final time in the 2024 season when it heads to Moraga, California to take on Saint Mary's. First ball from the UCU Pavilion is set for 1 p.m. on ESPN+.
