Tigers Prevail in Five at Portland with Edwards' Career Night

PORTLAND, Ore. – A career-high 28 kills from graduate Alexa Edwards was enough for the Pacific volleyball program to pull out a 3-2 (25-21, 18-25, 25-14, 23-25, 15-12) win over Portland on Friday at the Chiles Center on Halloween Night.

Edwards surpassed her previous career-best of 27 kills for Pacific (14-8, 4-6 WCC) against Sacramento State on Sept. 10, 2021. She also registered season-highs of 19 digs and four aces to put up a season-high 33.5 points. The 28 kills also exceeded Portland's (10-10, 3-7 WCC) top two offensive options combined and managed to do so with an efficient .358 hitting percentage, making it her most efficient match in which she tallied 20+ kills since Sept. 14, against Portland State (20 kills on .366 percentage).

Edwards didn't do it alone though offensively as freshman Zoe John also set a new career-high 14 kills. The outside hitter has reached double digit kills in her last three matches and tied her career-high 14 points as well.

Tied 12-12 in the fifth set, graduate Darina Kumanova earned a kill to go up 13-12. Edwards then tallied kill number 28 to bring about match point. Graduate Margherita Giani put the match away, sharing a block with Kumanova to close it out 15-12.

Senior Jenna Heller recorded a double-double of 48 assists and 15 digs. Junior Jayhlin Swain reached double-digits in digs with 15.

In the standings, Pacific gained a game on Washington State and a half game on San Francisco, the team's next opponent on Saturday. The Tigers remain five games back of the West Coast Conference lead with eight games remaining.

First ball from the Alex G. Spanos Center on Saturday is set for 12 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+.
