Volleyball Outlasts San Francisco in Five Set Road Win

SAN FRANCISCO – The Pacific volleyball program grinded out a 3-2 win (25-23, 15-25, 21-25, 25-17, 18-16) over San Francisco on Saturday at the Sobrato Center as graduate Alexa Edwards moved into a tie for fifth on the career kills list in West Coast Conference history.

Edwards swung for 22 kills to put herself at 1,728 in her career and matches the output from former Gonzaga Bulldog Savannah Blinn from 2011-15. With her next kill, Edwards will sit only 14 kills away from fourth place, which is currently held by former Pepperdine Waves athlete Julie Rubenstein (2005-08).

Providing offensive sparks alongside Edwards were fellow graduate Margherita Giani and freshman Zoe John, who each tallied season highs in kills with 12 and 13 respectively. For Giani, the 12 kills match her career high set during her time UT-Rio Grande Valley while John's 13 kills are the first time she has notched double digits in her collegiate career.

Heavily aiding the attack was senior Jenna Hiller who matched her career-high with 51 assists.

On the defensive end, Giani led a Tigers block that rejected 10 Don attacks. The junior transfer sent seven USF shots back at the Dons that matches her season-high set against LMU on Sept. 26. If the attack did manage to get past Giani, the ball was received by the waiting arms of junior Jayhlin Swain. The conference leader in digs entering this week's slate of games, Swain added another 20 to her total.

The Tigers improved to 37-5 all-time against USF and have won the last four meetings.

Pacific will only play once in the coming week, returning home to face San Diego at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Alex G. Spanos Center.
