Bridgeport, Pa. – The Pacific men's water polo team (5-0) moved up one spot to #5 in the nation in the week one Collegiate Water Polo Association national poll based on its 5-0 start at the Bruno Classic, hosted by Brown. The Tigers were ranked sixth in the preseason poll.
Stanford (3-1), who had a 12-10 setback to #9 Long Beach State in its opener, fell from fourth to tied for sixth.
UC Davis, who will play at Pacific on Sunday, Oct. 8, stayed one spot ahead, moving to fourth.
The top three positions remain unchanged, including #1 California, which will play at Pacific on Sunday, Sept. 17 as part of the opening home weekend. UCLA, which retained its #3 ranking, will open the home season with a 1 p.m. game on Saturday, Sept. 16.
Pacific will play at #2 USC on Sunday, October 2 and at #6 Stanford on Thursday, Oct. 26.
All seven members of the new West Coast Conference remain ranked after the first week, including #8 Pepperdine, #14 Loyola Marymount, #15 California Baptist, #16 San Jose State, #19 Santa Clara and #20 Air Force.
The Brown Bears, who pushed Pacific in the final game of the Bruno Classic before falling 13-12, moved into the poll for the first time this season, ranked 17
th.
