Women’s Swimming and Diving Opens on the Road at Cal State East Bay

STOCKTON, Calif.- The Pacific women's swim and dive team kick off their 2023-24 season on the road against Cal State East Bay in Hayward, Calif. The meet is set to start on Saturday, Sept. 30 at noon.

The Tigers have started their season the past two years against East Bay, but they've only hosted them at home. While they are 2-0 over the Pioneers, this Saturday presents a unique opportunity for the women to start their season. "It's going to be a different start for us. Normally this meet is at our pool, our home," head coach Katelyne Herrington said, "It is probably the most high-energy meet and it's a great way for the women to start their season."

She continued, "We usually win and it's easy with the home advantage, energy and support. This year it's going to be more of a challenge. So we talked about how we can bring that energy and create that energy there."

The Tigers have won quite handedly the past two years against East Bay, but they hav also had the comfort of home. They took the 167-95 victory in 2022-23 and 165-101 win in 2021-22. Last year saw 10 first finishes across 14 events and 11 top-finishes through 14 events in 2021-22.

This year will look a lot different for the women, but to them, that's a challenge they are ready to take head on. "(Cal State East Bay) has a strong team, it's not going to be as easy. It looks like it's going to be a closer meet, but I think it's going to be more exciting," Herrington shared, "We are going to have to be a little bit more intentional and understanding that it's going to be a race for race. It will create different challenges, which will determine where the women are at the start of the season."
