STOCKTON, Calif. – Incoming freshman golfer
Carlos Astiazaran of the Pacific men's golf team earned a first-place finish in the IMG Academy Junior World Championships on Thursday after posting an eight-under-par 208 (68-69-71) at the Torrey Pines Golf Course.
Astiazaran, competing in the Boys 15-18 age grouping, shined throughout the three-day event, shooting under par in every round. The freshman standout finished the tournament and led the competition with 13 birdies while only tallied five bogeys in 54 holes.
The prestigious IMG Academy Junior World Championships began in February of 1968 and was conducted by the San Diego Junior Golf Association. The event includes tournaments for six age groups ranging from under six to 15-18 for both boys and girls.
High-end talent has through this tournament with past winners, including Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, and Jason Day.
