STOCKTON, Calif. – After one of the best offensive seasons in recent memory, graduate
Ben Nemivant was named to the All-WCC First Team. Nemivant was not the only Pacific baseball player honored, as graduate
Jeremy Lea was named an All-WCC Honorable Mention.
Nemivant led the conference for much of the season in batting average and finished the year second in the WCC with a .398 mark. His 80 hits led the conference, and his 18 doubles were tied for fourth. Nemivant was one of three WCC hitters ever to have a six-hit game, going 6-6 with 6 RBI in a win over New Mexico State.
"Ben had an outstanding year," said Head Coach
Chris Rodriguez. "He was our spark plug for the offense. I enjoyed watching him play every day. I could not be prouder of the accomplishments he did this year."
The outfielder set career highs in batting average, hits, doubles, RBI, SLG%, OB% and stolen bases. It is his first All-WCC honor.
Graduate
Jeremy Lea also received his first All-WCC honor, being named an honorable mention after a season in which he hit .301 with 13 doubles and six home runs. Lea also set a career-high in games played, appearing in 47 games, with most of those coming from behind the plate.
"Jeremy is the definition of a true leader," Rodriguez said. "His play on both sides of the ball was incredible. Behind the plate, Jeremy was relentless with blocking, receiving and throwing runners out. On offense, Jeremy put a solid year together and had a lot of big clutch hits."
A maestro of the strike zone both behind the plate and at the dish, Lea was hit by a pitch a conference-leading 20 times, which also ranks him 20th in NCAA DI in the category.
All five individual awards – along with the All-West Coast Conference First, Second and Freshman Teams – were voted on solely by the league's 10 head coaches.
Seven teams placed at least one student-athlete on the 13-member All-WCC first team, headlined by four picks from Portland.
