STOCKTON, Calif. – Pacific softball's Vanessa Strong, Rian Dirmeyer, and Carly Lucchetti have been named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team. The academic honor recognizes the top student-athletes for their combined performance on the field and in the classroom.
To qualify for the award, student-athletes must be a starter or key reserve for their team, at least a sophomore in academic standing, have been at their respective institution for at least one full academic year, and have at least a 3.5 cumulative grade-point average.
Strong earned this prestigious award after accumulating a 4.0 grade-point average with a Master's in Health, Exercise, and Sport Science. Performing well in 18 appearances in the circle, Strong finished with a 5-8 record and a team-leading 3.56 earned-run average. The graduate student from Oakley, Calif., ranked 10th in the WCC in earned-run average and sixth in strikeouts with 60.
Dirmeyer, majoring in Psychology, earned a 3.68 grade-point average and helped guide the Tigers offensively this season. The junior from Phoenix, Ariz., ranked sixth in the WCC in triples with two and accumulated a .404 slugging percentage, 16th-best in the conference. Providing the team's power, Dirmeyer recorded five home runs and 17 RBI.
Competing in her final season with the Tigers, Lucchetti led the team while earning a 3.88 grade-point average with a Master's in Education. Lucchetti batted .261, accumulated 35 hits in 40 games and led the team in runs scored with 16. The graduate student from Linden, Calif., recorded a team-best nine stolen bases and ranked ninth in the WCC.
