Softball Edged Out in Conference Home Opener

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific pitching staff spun a strong opening game of the series against Seattle but allowed a run in the seventh inning that gave a 3-2 decision to the Redhawks on Thursday evening at Bill Simoni Field.

Sophomore Kaytee Dahlstrom was effective out of the gate for Pacific (12-24, 0-4 WCC), working the first four innings of the contest and only allowed two runs (one earned). Throughout her time on the mound, she proved adept at working around traffic as she conceded two hits and three walks but did strikeout four batters. The outing was her longest since throwing 6.2 innings on March 8 against Utah Valley.

From there, she handed the ball off to fellow newcomer, freshman Sophia Lambaren. The freshman was nearly unhittable during her eight outs in the circle. It was not until the seventh inning that she surrendered any baserunners, a single to Jay Ross and walk to Abbie Fales. While Ross would get tagged out at the plate, Fales came around to score the game's decisive run but it was not out of the hand of Lambaren. By this point she had relinquished the ball to freshman Carley Mulcahey, who allowed a double that plated Seattle's (15-19, 1-0 WCC) go-ahead run.

At the plate, Pacific had similar troubles to Seattle in terms of getting anything going. While the Tigers outhit SU 5-4, three of those hits came in the fourth inning – where the team scored two runs.

Redshirt senior Olivia Silvestre led the way for the program with two hits, including her 14th double of the season – she was also the only Tiger with an extra base hit on the evening. She did tally one of Pacific's two RBIs, the other belonging to sophomore Peyton Clifford. Senior Jordan Hayes and junior Zaedi Tagalog notched the remaining two hits.

The Tigers did, however, draw a season high seven walks – matching the most in a single game under Head Coach Sam Duran-Kukuk. Six of the ten student-athletes that logged a plate appearance drew at least one walk with freshman Ave Risati drawing two.

Pacific returns to the diamond on Friday for game two against Seattle. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. on ESPN+.
