STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific women's basketball team has announced its fourth signing for 2023-24. Freshman Stella Szabo will join the Tigers from Stockholm, Sweden.
"Stella has been playing high-level basketball for years," said Head Coach
Bradley Davis. "As a 5'11 combo guard, we were impressed early with Stella's skill set and versatility. She has good range and consistency from the perimeter, she's a talented play-maker and is comfortable playing with her back to the basket vs. smaller defenders."
"Her length and work ethic also makes her a force on the defensive end."
The 5'11" guard joins the Tigers after a successful prep career that included stints on the Swedish National U18 team and being named captain at the 2022 Nordic Championships.
Szabo also played in the European Championship Division A in 2022 and was a part of the National High School Academy for the Swedish Basketball Federation.
The guard set season highs in multiple categories against AIK with 21 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
"The more we got to know Stella, however, what stood out was her leadership ability," continued Davis. "That is a sometimes hard-to-assess intangible skill, but Stella's basketball experiences combined with her work ethic show themselves in a humble but contagious confidence."
"I'm confident she will fit well with our program and the Pacific community."
Szabo will look to get guard minutes early, joining an impressive guard rotation that features sophomore
Anaya James, freshman
Sydney Ward and juniors
Liz Smith and
Kadie Deaton.
