Stockton, Calif. – The #12 Pacific women's water polo team (18-7, 3-2) takes on two Golden Coast Conference opponents at home this weekend; Concordia University Irvine (15-13, 3-3) and Azusa Pacific (14-10, 2-4).
"We're excited to have two home games with great opponents in our final conference matches," said Head Coach James Graham. "We're looking forward to competing and using this as our final opportunity to prepare for the conference tournament next weekend, which is what we've been working for all season."
The Concordia University Irvine match-up occurs at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 21, when the Tigers hope to keep their undefeated record against CUI. Against the Golden Eagles, the Tigers have an 11-0 advantage since 2010. The two teams last faced off just over one year ago, and the Tigers came away with a 14-8 victory.
For their final game of the regular season, the Tigers will host Azusa Pacific. Since 2012, the Tigers have a 13-1 advantage over the Cougars, including a dominant 16-7 win last March. Saturday's game will be at 1 p.m. and will be Senior Day for the Tigers. Five seniors from the team will be congratulated on their accomplishments and recognized for their contributions to the program; graduate student Brianna Utas, graduate student Lucy Davis, redshirt senior Clara Vulpisi, senior Aristiana Modica and junior Helen McGrath.
Sophomore Hila Futorian leads the team in goals scored with 56 and is second for assists with 16. Sophomore Szamira Koppány is a close second with 52 goals and a shot efficiency of 63 percent. Davis leads the team in assists with 19 and is third in points with 57. Freshman Alicia Petkov has a dominant shot efficiency of 68 percent with 32 goals.
Futorian is fifth in the GCC with 56 goals, one of three Tigers in the top 10. Koppány is seventh with 52, and Dora Alaksza is 10th with 46. Vulpisi is third in goals-against-average with 10.39.
Tickets for the 2023 GCC Championships are on sale now. The tournament will be held at Aztec Aquaplex at San Diego State from Friday, Apr. 28, through Sunday, April 30. Fans can find more information at the tournament central site.
