Pacific Baseball Travels to Fresno State Before Hosting CSUN

STOCKTON, Calif. – Coming off a three-game sweep this weekend, the Pacific baseball team (4-6) will stay in the state this week, traveling to Fresno State (5-5) for a single game before hosting CSUN (7-2) at Klein Family Field for a weekend series.  

Pacific found its power over the weekend, hitting three home runs and collecting 11 extra-base hits. The weekend sweep over New Mexico State was highlighted by graduate Ben Nemivant going 6-6 with 6 RBI in a 13-4 win on Sunday. The pitching staff dominated on the mound, collecting at least five strikeouts in every game and not allowing more than four earned runs in any game. 

Pacific has two hitters in the top five of batting average in the WCC, Nemivant is third, hitting .512, and freshman Rylan Evans is fifth at .477. The two are tied for second in total hits with 21. Nemivant is eighth in RBI, having driven in 10 runs. 

Fresno State has already played a handful of Power Five schools, kicking off the season against Michigan, Arizona and Michigan State, going 1-2 in the MLB Desert Invitational. The Bulldogs took three of four from Nebraska Omaha and picked up a win over San Francisco. Nikoh Mitchell leads Fresno State at the plate, hitting .300 with two extra-base hits and four RBI. The Bulldogs have three pitchers with an ERA under four, and Ixan Henderson leads the team with 20 strikeouts. 

CSUN opened the season with a sweep over Stony Brook and a single-game win over San Diego State. The Matadors split a two-game set with Pepperdine and took two of three from Creighton. Graysen Tarlow is hitting .516 with 16 hits and 15 RBI to lead the team in all three categories. Isaac Ontiveros has made three appearances on the mound without allowing a run, pitching 6.2 innings with nine strikeouts. Lucas Braun leads the team in strikeouts with 24. 

Pacific faces Fresno State at 6:05 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7. The Tigers host CSUN from 5 p.m. on Friday, March 10, through Sunday, March 12.
