Meet the newcomers to the Pacific women's water polo program.
Alicia Petkov, a 5'7" freshman from Montreal, Quebec, Canada, joined the Tigers in the 2023 season.Â
Why did you choose Pacific?
I chose to join the Tiger family for a couple of reasons. It was a chance for me to finally play with Clara Vulpisi, whom I'd known from my first years of water polo but had never had the opportunity to play with her. Also, on my recruit trip, I experienced a strong sense of community on the team and at the school.
What is your favorite thing about playing water polo?
The emotions. I love the high emotions of a tight game. Celebrating as a team because you can only win those games as a team, and the satisfaction when we do win is greater than anything in that moment.
What is something people should know about you?
I rarely give up on anything. I will always try and find a way to succeed in whatever I am doing.
What are you most proud of, Before Pacific?
My proudest moment was winning the U19 National Championships back home with my club team in shootouts. As someone who loves water polo for its high emotions, that was a game I will never forget. It was also a moment I showed resilience as we had lost the championship title in the U16 category a couple of hours before.
