Box Score STOCKTON, Calif. – The #12 Pacific women's water polo team (17-6, 2-2) lost a tough 10-7 battle to reigning GCC champs #7 Fresno State (12-7, 5-0) on Saturday.
"Fresno State is a great team -- they have won multiple championships -- they know how to get big games done, but we need to learn that as well and get back to that same place," said Head Coach James Graham. "There were some things we did last weekend, some changes and adaptations we made to be successful; they didn't show up as often today as last weekend. So, right now, they are something we're capable of, but they're not a championship habit yet. We need to work on moving these things from an act to a habit, and that's our focus."
Sophomores Hila Futorian and Szamira Koppány each found the back of the net twice for the Tigers. Freshman Alicia Petkov, graduate student Lucy Davis and freshman Noemi Alaksza each scored once for the Tigers.
Redshirt senior goalkeeper Clara Vulpisi had seven saves in the game and stole the ball twice from the Bulldogs.
Graduate student Brianna Utas and Koppány each added another two steals for the Tigers, while Futorian had one.
Sophomore Ilyana Zlobinsky had two drawn exclusions for Pacific, and Futorian added another.
"We showed a lot of courage and determination to play hard through the game, and honestly, in the second half, I felt the game was going in our favor; we were causing them more problems than they were causing us," said Graham. "We're going to regroup. All we need to do is move forward and react appropriately, and we will."
The Tigers host #25 San Diego State at noon on Saturday, April 1, for their Pink Out Game.
