STOCKTON, Calif. – Pacific Baseball (7-11, 1-2) is back home for its first WCC home series against Portland (13-7, 3-0).
The Friday opener is Youth Day, and President Callahan will throw out the first pitch.
Pacific took one of three from San Diego in its WCC series opener before dropping a Monday game with CSU Bakersfield.
For fans that enjoy hitting, this weekend will be a thrill, as the top six hitters in the WCC will be tearing the cover off the ball at Klein Family Field. Graduate
Ben Nemivant is leading the conference, hitting .500 through 18 games. Junior
Chase Graves is second, hitting .425 in 16 games, and freshman
Peyton Miller is fifth, hitting .400. Portland has the number three, four and six hitters in the conference. Freshman
Rylan Evans is hitting .386, good for eighth in the conference.
Pacific and Portland are the top two hitting teams in the conference, the Tigers have a team batting average of .312, and the Pilots have a team batting average of .311.
Along with leading the conference, Nemivant is third in the nation in hitting, tied with Charlie Condon at Georgia. Nemivant leads the team in hits, RBI and doubles. Graves leads the team in home runs with three.
Senior
Grant Stevens picked up his second win with a complete game against San Diego. Stevens leads the team in strikeouts with 20. Senior
Jackson Ertz leads the team in ERA at 1.29 in eight appearances.
Portland opened its WCC schedule with a three-game sweep over Pepperdine. The Pilots have won six of eight coming into Stockton this weekend, and the team currently sits at the top of the WCC standings. Henry Muench, Nich Klemp and Jake Holcroft lead the team in hitting and are in the top six in the WCC in batting average. Holcroft has displayed great power, hitting a team-leading four home runs and is tied for the team lead in RBI with 16.
