Pacific Hosts Yale Before Starting WCC Play Against San Diego

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific baseball team (5-8) hosts Yale (4-5) to open the week before starting WCC competition with last year's WCC Champion, San Diego (6-8-1).

Pacific was competing against CSUN, and the weather this past weekend. Pacific went 1-1 during the weekend, with the contest on Sunday being canceled due to the consistent downpour. The Tigers' pitching staff showed out, allowing just four runs in 14 innings.

Graduate Ben Nemivant continues to lead the team in multiple categories. His .480 batting average, 11 RBI and .536 on-base percentage are all the best on the team. Freshman Rylan Evans has cooled off ever so slightly from his torrid start, still hitting .434 and leading the team with four doubles. Junior Jacob Weiss has provided the power, leading the team with seven extra-base hits, two home runs and two triples.

Senior Tyler Stout leads the team in wins with two as the senior is third in innings pitched as a reliever. Freshman Cooper Lanz leads the team in innings pitched at 15.1 and strikeouts with 12. Pacific has three pitchers with an ERA under 2.00. Senior Jackson Ertz leads the team with a 1.42 ERA, sophomore Caden Duke sits at 1.86, and senior Marvcus Guarin has a 1.93 ERA in 9.1 innings pitched.

Yale is coming off a three-game series at San Francisco, and the Bulldogs took one of three from the Dons. The Bulldogs have won at least one game in every series this season. Jimmy Chatfield leads Yale in hitting with a .419 batting average and 11 RBI. Chatfield and Colton Shaw lead the team in HR with two.

San Diego opened the season hot, taking three wins and a tie against Nebraska to open the year. After a disappointing sweep against Oregon, the Toreros opened their series against #10 TCU with a 14-2 win. Former Tiger James Arakawa is second on the team in batting average, hitting .320 and has started 14 of 15 games. Jack Costello leads the team in home runs with six and has driven in a team-high 19 runs.
