PORTLAND, Ore. – The Pacific men's basketball team dropped an 81-73 decision to Portland Thursday evening at the Chiles Center.
"Our defensive intensity dropped," Head Coach
Leonard Perry said after the game. "Portland made baskets and climbed back into it."
Keylan Boone led the Tigers (12-14, 5-6) offensively, scoring a team-high 22 points in 21 minutes of work. Shooting a team-best 57.1 percent (eight-for-14) from the field, Boone also led the team in three-point field goals, knocking down five. The junior from Tulsa, Okla., scored 19 first-half points, but foul trouble in the final 20 minutes of play limited his production later in the game.
Moe Odum shined on both sides of the ball throughout the contest as he matched a career-high 10 assists. Reaching double-figure assists for the second time this season, Odum continues to lead the team with 80 through 26 games.
Odum added seven points while tying a career-high four rebounds and led the team with two steals.
The Tigers started the game fast, using an 11-2 run to take a commanding lead in the first five minutes. Shots continued to fall for the Tigers in the following 10 minutes, extending their advantage to 11, 26-15, at the 6:33 mark of the first half. The Pilots (13-14, 5-7) began to chip away at the deficit during the remainder of the half, using a 17-7 run to close within one, 33-32.
In a back-and-forth battle throughout the second half, the Pilots came out on top, outscoring the Tigers 49-40, to earn the eight-point victory.
Pacific returns to action at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11, as it hosts San Diego at the Alex G. Spanos Center.
