STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific men's basketball team earned the season sweep, defeating San Diego, 99-94, Saturday evening at the Alex G. Spanos Center.
"We fought hard throughout, putting ourselves in a position to win this game," Head Coach
Leonard Perry said. "We had to make it a dog fight, and we were fortunate to come out on top."
Keylan Boone led the Tigers (13-14, 6-6) offensively throughout the game, scoring a career-high 30 points. Boone shot 55 percent (11-for-20) from the field and connected on four of his eight attempts from the three-point line. The junior from Tulsa, Okla., also shined on the defensive side of the ball, grabbing a team-high five rebounds and registering two blocks.
A season-high 25 points from
Jordan Ivy-Curry also propelled the Tigers offensively throughout the contest. Shooting 69.2 percent (nine-for-13) from the floor, Ivy-Curry matched a career-high five made three-point baskets and was a perfect two-for-two from the free-throw line. The sophomore from La Marque, Texas, also corralled five rebounds and dished out three assists.
Moe Odum continues to show off his passing ability as he recorded eight assists in 26 minutes. In 12 conference games, Odum has registered 65 assists and is tied with LMU's Cam Shelton for first place in the league. The freshman from the Bronx also helped the Tigers' scoring efforts, adding six second-half points.
The Tigers controlled the pace of play from the jump and gained an early 6-0 advantage in the game's first four minutes. Refusing to be waylaid by the slow start, the Toreros (11-16, 4-9) quickly came back to take the lead, 15-14, at the 12:45 mark of the first half. With the game tied at 34 with 5:07 left on the clock, the Tigers closed out the first half on an 18-8 run and held a 10-point lead, 52-42, at the halftime break.
The Tigers' lead ballooned to 16, 58-42, after Boone and
Luke Avdalovic opened the second half with back-to-back three-point baskets. However, the Toreros bounced back and outscored the Tigers, 47-26, in the following 15 minutes to cut the deficit to three, 84-81, at the 5:03 mark of the second half.
The Tigers never relinquished the lead in the second half, holding on for a five-point victory after fending off multiple Torero runs near the end of the game.
Pacific returns to action at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16, as it hosts San Francisco in a West Coast Conference contest at the Alex G. Spanos Center.
