PROVO, Utah –
Jordan Ivy-Curry recorded his first career double-double as the Pacific men's basketball team dropped an 81-66 decision to BYU Saturday evening at the Marriott Center.
"I thought we were playing great at the start," Head coach
Leonard Perry said after the game. "BYU is a physical team, and we made some mistakes we couldn't recover from."
Ivy-Curry led the Tigers (12-13, 5-5) off the bench, scoring 11 points and tallying a career-high 11 rebounds. Recording his first-ever double-digit rebound performance, Ivy-Curry did most of his damage in the second half, adding seven points and eight rebounds in the final 20 minutes of play.
Judson Martindale also reached double figures for the Tigers, scoring 10 points on two of three shooting. Connecting on all four of his free-throw attempts, Martindale was one of five team members to go perfect at the charity stripe throughout the game.
The Tigers jumped to a quick lead in the game's opening minutes and held a 7-2 advantage at the 16:33 mark of the first half. The Cougars (16-10, 6-5) recovered and took their first contest lead with seven-straight points in the following minute and a half.
Trailing 25-20 at the 8:02 mark of the half, the Tigers used a 6-4 run to regain the lead, 30-29, with 4:12 left on the first-half clock. The Cougars followed with a 12-0 run to close off the final four minutes of the half and held a commanding 41-30 lead at the halftime break.
The Cougars outscored the Tigers in the second half, 40-36, to secure the win, never relinquishing the lead.
