Women's Water Polo Travels To Cal State East Bay Saturday

Szamira Koppany leads the team in scoring with 14 points
STOCKTON, Calif. – The #11 Pacific women's water polo team (3-1) will play a single contest at Cal State East Bay this week, facing the Pioneers in an 11 a.m. game on Saturday, Feb. 4.

The Tigers opened the season last week at the Lancer Joust, winning three of the four games including a 12-11 victory over #6 UC Irvine. The loss was the opening game to #2 USC.  Pacific moved up eight spots in the national poll after the hot start to the season.

Freshman Dora Alaksza leads the team in goals scored with 12 goals in the first four games. Classmate Alicia Petkov is one behind with 11 goals, including six in the win over Fresno Pacific. Sophomore Szamira Koppany had 10 goals and leads the team with four assists. She leads the team in scoring with 14 points.

Pacific knocked off East Bay, 15-7, last year at the Eberhardt Aquatics Center and have won the six straight against the Pioneers. The only East Bay win in the series was 12-7 loss in 2008. The Tigers have a 12-1 edge in the series, but this will be the first time the two teams meet at Cal State East Bay's Pioneer Pool.

The Tigers will return to a multiple-team weekend on February 11-12 when they make the short trip north to Davis to participate in four games in the Aggie Invite, including a matchup with #1 Stanford, the defending national champion.
